If you don't need to cut metal or you can do so via other means then I extremely recommend getting a quarterly wood band saw. It will be economy and take up less space.
Spares
A band saw has a few replaceable parts that need changing from time to time as they wear out or otherwise degrade. The chief component in this regard is the cutting blade.
But if you buy an old band saw that is no longer supported by the builder then you will not get much use out of it and will have to throw the engine away when it no longer cuts very well!
Look for one of the major brands such as Black & Decker, Grizzly, Milwaukee, Jet, DeWalt, Hitachi and Ryobi. These will be supported for many years.
Delivery Costs
Band saws are very heavy. Try to get the band saw by car if you can. Otherwise you will have to shell out a lot of dough.
